Talk Club Therapy Groups

Talking Therapies

Talk Club Talking Therapies provide men with an affordable, accessible route into professional therapy with a trained therapist. At a time when many men face long waits for treatment, this service gives Talk Club members—particularly those who have experienced our peer-to-peer talking groups—the opportunity to go deeper. Sessions follow the Talk Club format, beginning and ending with the simple question: “How are you? Out of 10?” This structure helps men track their mental fitness, reflect on change, and build momentum from session to session.

What is talking therapy?

Friends and family can be a vital source of support, but they often have a vested interest. This can leave us feeling judged, pressured, or overwhelmed. Therapy, counselling, and talking therapies serve a different purpose: they provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space to talk openly.

Therapy goes deeper than Talk Club’s talk and listen groups. It equips men with practical tools, healthier coping strategies, and greater self-awareness. Used consistently, therapy can help raise—and maintain—your mental fitness score.

Our therapy services include group therapy, available both in person at selected UK locations and online. Groups are led by a qualified therapist and limited to a maximum of six men, creating a focused and supportive environment. All sessions follow the Talk Club model, using the question “How are you? Out of 10?” at the start and end of each session to help men understand their feelings and track their mental wellbeing. Therapy groups run for eight weeks, with one session per week.

We also offer one-to-one therapy (online only), extending Talk Club’s continuity of care. Sessions last 50 minutes and are delivered by either a qualified or a trainee therapist. Weekly sessions are booked in blocks of eight, with the option to add a further four sessions if required. One-to-one therapy continues to use the Talk Club model, beginning and ending with the question “How are you? Out of 10?”

Why bother with therapy?

Everyone has mental health, just as everyone has physical health. Not everyone needs to run a marathon to stay physically fit, nor does everyone need therapy to maintain their mental fitness. But sometimes the signs that extra support could help are clear: consistently low numbers, low mood, sleep problems, withdrawal, people-pleasing, or snapping at the dog more than usual.

Therapy isn’t a magic wand, and it won’t give you all the answers. What it offers is space to explore who you are, what matters to you, and what gives your life purpose and meaning. It’s a chance to slow down, reflect, and understand yourself more clearly.

Therapy can support you with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, bereavement, work-related stress, family life, and relationships. It can increase self-awareness, help you take better care of yourself, and bring focus to what is already going well in your life—not just what feels difficult.

You don’t need to attend a Talk & Listen group first. You can move straight into Talk Club therapy, choosing either group therapy or one-to-one sessions, depending on what feels right for you.

There are no algorithms or bots here. Talk Club is a small team of real humans, ready to listen to real problems. We believe in the power of human connection and will carefully match you with a suitable Talk Club therapist or a therapy group led by a qualified therapist.

Here’s what men had to say about Talk Club therapy services:

“The group therapy was amazing to be hosted by professional therapists”

“The group therapy sessions were valuable to me. I gained insights and practical knowledge that helped me better understand some of my challenges.

It was great to connect with all the attendees and be in the therapeutic space.

As a TC Captain, I have recommended Group Therapy  to all the chaps who attend.”

“Thoroughly enjoyed the group, the members, the process.”

“I always felt a huge calm coming away from the groups, from living a life where I believe sometimes I’m going crazy in my mind, the group and talking openly made me realise we all have our issues.”

“The hardest thing was walking in the door that first evening, after that I looked forward to Thursdays every week .”

“Personally, there was clarity in how to apply ‘tools’ I’d previously picked up, and also the opportunity to learn more, and take away areas to work on that I didn’t even know were probably playing a part in my challenges.”

“While I was at the group sessions, it became the focus of my week; I looked forward to Thursday. As the weeks went by, it felt like a trust was built within the group, and it was the one time each week I could let all my barriers and masks disappear and just be myself.”
